Since 1970 I have developed my own types of pickups for both guitars and basses. Producing the right pickup is not simple. To create the right sound, one must have the best magnets, the best suitable copper wire in the right dimensions, the right number of turns, the right physical dimensions, and feedback damping materials. Furthermore, the winding technique is extremely important to get the right sound.

Mørch also matches his pickups to different wood combinations to achieve specific tonal characteristics.

In order to give you an indication of how the pickups actually sound, we have tried to describe the sound of each pickup in a few choice words. It should give you a good idea of the pickup characteristics.

This stacked humbucker features a “fast” vintage-kind of sound with lots of personality and character. With slightly rolled-off lows and upper highs plus a typical Alnico-induced “timbre” to the upper midrange and lower presence register, that will remind you of a certain MM-bass pickup. This pickup cuts through even when played softly and in the lower octaves has a certain MM-type compressed sound. If connected via a switch, this pickup can be altered to single-coil mode with higher output, improved dynamics and slightly higher dynamic resolution.

This is the favorite among Rock’n Roll bassists: A highly tuned, gutsy P-Bass type with better definition and much more punch than even the very best vintage P-Basses. Still the treble is somewhat rolled-off and the special Alnico V magnets provide a certain Vintage character. A pickup of great versatility on its own – and a favorite among live and studio bassists who want sounds with lots of character.
