Since 1970 I have developed my own types of pickups for both guitars and basses. Producing the right pickup is not simple. To create the right sound, one must have the best magnets, the best suitable copper wire in the right dimensions, the right number of turns, the right physical dimensions, and feedback damping materials. Furthermore, the winding technique is extremely important to get the right sound.
Mørch also matches his pickups to different wood combinations to achieve specific tonal characteristics.
In order to give you an indication of how the pickups actually sound, we have tried to describe the sound of each pickup in a few choice words. It should give you a good idea of the pickup characteristics.

A very tight, “fast” and highly projecting tone quality comes from this pickup, which has high timbral resolution and natural dynamics that are easily controllable with your right hand fingers. The tonal quality seems “natural” with extended lows and highs and an open and highly dynamic midrange, that can also “growl” a little bit in the lower presence area (due to “pre-aged” magnets), especially when you play very aggressive attacks.
Due to its technical design this pickup will benefit very much from use with a built-in Mørch Active Preamp with high input impedance. This will widen the tonal spectrum, enhance dynamics and provide a great spectrum of tonal colors.

Vintage type with exceptional clarity, liquid midrange, extended and transparent highs with a very slight amount of a “tube-like” glow on the upper harmonics due to special Alnico magnets.

This popular pickup is designed for bass players who wants considerably higher outputs and a more gutsy and full tone with a warmer, fuller sound quality to the lower midrange and a big, open bass response. The treble has a certain “vintage” characteristic – i.e. with a gradual treble roll off as opposed to super penetrating highs.
If you add the Mørch Active Preamp you will experience even more dynamics in the lower octaves and you will obtain a more open and airy treble.

“True Vintage P-Bass sounds from a very high output J-Bass type.” A biiig (BIG!) and awfully gutsy and full sound with loads of body and weight comes from this powerful pickup, which features enhanced focus on the lower four octaves and warm and rolled off overtones with a certain tube-like quality. This soulman’s “motor” is great when you really want to lay that rhythm down and push the whole band with a fat, fluent, penetrating and gutsy bassline. Great in the studio too.
A Mørch Active Preamp might be used to control the low end fullness and add more presence clarity when you play in concert halls with boomy acoustics.
